GENERAL SANTOS CITY, South Cotabato, Philippines — Ring sensation Manny Pacquiao has hired an accountant to review his tax liabilities, a revenue official here said yesterday.
Eric Furia, revenue district officer of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) here, said Pacquiao has already pledged to settle his tax obligations.
The BIR office here has given the pugilist until the end of this month to settle his dues with the agency.
Furia said even if Pacquiao has already pledged to pay his dues, the BIR would still look into his income from 1995 up to the present.
Aside from the talent fees and prizes won from his fights, Pacquiao has also become a celebrity-endorser for several products including Talk and Text and Smart cellular phone, Burlington socks, Alaxan, Surf laundry soap, Family rubbing alcohol, Pony and No Fear sports wear and Red Bull.
He said the BIR was looking forward to collecting “millions” from the boxing idol.
Last month, BIR Commissioner Guillermo Parayno wrote Pacquiao a letter, asking him to put his income tax records in order.
