Life is filled with peaks and valley’s, and trials and tribulations. Not everyone gets a fair shake in this world, some are dealt less impressive cards, and some are able to traverse through life with a full house.
When you watch the television each day, the headline stories are usually filled with negative, sad, and down right ugly news. You know? usually depicting humans at their worst.
A few years ago the Wild Card Gym family was introduced to a guy named Bo. Bo’s last name isn’t important, just know that he’s real and he’s a class act gentleman. Bo is a boxing fan, more importantly, he’s a huge Manny Pacquiao fan. Manny Pacquiao is everything to Bo, so to be able to interact with team Pacquiao has been a dream come true for the guy.
Bo’s dream came true when he flew to Los Angeles last year and met the great hall of fame boxing trainer, Freddie Roach. To put the sugar on top, he was then introduced to his idol, the pound for pound king, Manny Pacquiao. Once at the Wild Card, he then got to know the team. It didn’t take long for Bo’s personality to take a hold of the team, and in a short period of time, he was accepted as part of the family.
Buboy Fernandez has known Manny Pacquiao for many years, since childhood. A humble man, he has often turned down interviews with boxing scribes for no other reason other than to stay on the sidelines and do his job. Fernandez is Pacquiao’s conditioning coach, a big part of the team.
Buboy and Pacquiao are like peanut butter and jelly, one goes with the other. When you see Manny in the gym, you see Buboy by his side. It’s no big deal to Buboy to just do his thing, and stay out of the spotlight. He’s just not in this for fame, he’s in the game because of his passion for boxing and for his childhood friend Manny Pacquiao.
Earlier this year Bo wanted to travel to the Philippines to visit a friend. While over there he became sick, very sick at that. The trip was not what Bo was expecting, his money ran out, and his health was declining fast. Bo realized that his situation was dire, so he thought of what to do, he needed help. He remembered that Buboy, being the kind man that he is, gave him his phone number when the two met in Los Angeles. Bo picked up his phone and sent Buboy a text message asking him for help.
Buboy received Bo’s text and was surprised to find out that Bo was in the Philippines, and he wasn’t too far from him. Without hesitation Buboy summoned his bodyguard, their car, and headed toward where Bo was staying. When he arrived he was shocked to see how bad his friend looked, ” He was skinny, and he did not have his color anymore.” Buboy went on to say, ” I knew I had to do something fast, he was extremely dehydrated.” Without a second of hesitation Buboy put Bo into the car and they got out of there. Buboy purchased the medication that Bo needed, and brought him back to his private residence and fed him, and got him back onto his feet.
A true angel on the sidelines, Buboy would never agree to do an interview about this. Keeping humble as he usually does, he just wants to do his job and to stay out of the spotlight. A true angel on the sidelines, Buboy Fernandez.
