It’s been a HARD summer 4 the Boxing community. Deaths in an out of the ring and numerous cancelations have lead to one of the most disappointing summers ever for the sport of Boxing and it’s fans. Coupled now with UFC 100 and 101 we’ve had to here that same familar phrase that Boxing is dead or down for the count. Wait wasn’t Oscar-Floyd back in May of 07 the fight that was supposed to save Boxing? Don’t worry Pacquiao-Mayweather in 2010 will be the next fight to save Boxing and then again in say sometime 2015 there will be another fight to save Boxing. In the meantime, Boxing has put it’s best foot forward setting up a SICK finish to the calendar year that is 2009. From late Aug till the Nov even casual fans will take notice of Boxing’s FANTASTIC finish to 09.
I’ll be back to preview each fight in depth but here is a quick look at what is on the dockett for the rest of 2009:
Aug 22 Regular HBO: A tripleheader with Diaz-Malignaggi,Jacobs-Smith and Guerrero-Klausen: Solid card…Not A-List but solid.
Aug 28th ESPN: A doubleheader that could have landed on SHOWTIME or HBO. CLoud-Woods and Bailey-Urango. A great way for ESPN FNF to close out the season. These fights should not disappoint.
Sept 19th HBO PPV: Mayweather vs Marquez: This fight should be a descent matchup despite some criticsm. The undercard is LOADED. Escobedo-Katsids,Judah-Diaz and John-Juarez II. This is a good card to buy and watch from top to bottom.
Sept 26th Regular HBO: A Heavyweight clash between Vitali Klitschko-Chris Arreola- Arreola may not be ready for this matchup but 1 thing is sure YOU WILL NOT BE BORED with this Heavyweight clash.
Oct 3rd Regular HBO: Paul Williams-Kelly Pavlik: This fight is gonna be SICK! Non-Stop punches will be thrown for sure and it’s pretty much a pickem fight which should lead to a real barn-burner.
Oct 17th Regular Showtime: The 168lb tourney kicks off with 2 fights. Abraham-Taylor and Froch-Dirrell. Be back later to discuss tourney at depth but the tourney should be great and best of all no PPV.
Nov 14th HBO PPV: THIS IS THE FIGHT PEOPLE! Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto. Tickets have not even go on sale to the public yet it’s being reported ringside tickets will be bought up an re-sold at 22K per seat ringside. TopRank is already reporting such celebrities as Derek Jeter,Brandon Jacobs,Carlos Beltran,Jack Nickolson,Denzel Washington,Mark Wahlberg and Charles Barkley to name a few have already inquired about tickets and will have those pricey tickets reserved. Myself, I have the MGM Grand room on reserve but the tickets for the fight don’t go on sale till Mon Aug 17th. BoxingScene.com is reporting that the 5,000 room hotel is almost sold-out 3 months in advance! Ticket agents reportedly have not seen the MGMGrand this packed so early for any event be it a Newyears or a UFC event. This is gonna be an exciting fight an event. Don’t miss it on PPV if you can’t be there!
There is also a boatload of other fights mixed in between those dates but I just wanted to highlight those certain matches because all of them have a chance to be great fights worth seeing. I’ll be back to preview each fight in depth but for now even if your a hardcore or casual Boxing fan get ready for some FIREWORKS THIS FALL!!!
