If he was a fighter and I was working Bob Arum’s corner, I would do the honorable thing.
I’d throw in the towel signifying total submission.
He doesn’t have egg on his face now. It’s more like a half dozen omelettes.
But Arum won’t do that on the issue of whether Manny Pacquiao will fight for the WBO welterweight title held by Miguel Cotto on Nov. 14. I don’t think the 77 year old is having a “senior moment” here, I think he is just being a stubborn, old donkey.
I’m done explaining or defending Arum’s arrogant, insensitive attitude when his cash cow, Pacman, has the chance to break Oscar de la Hoya’s record by winning a world title in a seventh weight division.
Would Arum be so thoughtless, so intractable if this situation one of his big ring stars of yesteryear, a Marvin Hagler for example?
That question answers itself.
Arum talks out of both sides of his motor mouth, saying it is stupid for Cotto and Manny to pay a $150,000 sanction fee to fight for what he labels a five dollar trinket.
Then he says he will “do what Manny wants.”
I am not going to insult your intelligence. I am not going to tell you it’s raining when Arum is spitting in your face.
And why doesn’t Manny get aggressive and lay down the law to Arum? Is he going to be a wishy washy politician in the Philippines also?
Is he an employee of Arum’s or does Bossman Bob actually work for him?
Part of the reason this controversy lingers is because Pacquiao has pussyfooted around instead of issuing a direct order to the Great White Father.
And where is the normally outspoken Coach Freddie Roach?
He should be telling both Manny and Arum to stop the nonsense.
