What are your thoughts on Mayweather Jr. vs Brian Kenny the rematch Interview on ESPN the other day? My thoughts were the same as the first interview, When doing interviews, Floyd should always have Leonard Ellerbe and Al Haymon at his side at all times. When Brian asked Floyd if he feels Marquez can carry a card more than Mosley can, Floyd always says the same thing, ” When has Mosley been on the A side of a promotion?” Brian should counter by reminding Floyd that the only time Floyd was on the A side of a promotion was when Floyd faced Zab and that only did roughly a little over 500,000, when Shane fought Vargas the fight did slightly better numbers. So Brian should remind Floyd that when Floyd fought the late great Gatti, Gatti was the A side of the show otherwise the fight would have taken place in Vegas. Floyd for sure wasn’t the A side of the promotion versus Oscar or Hatton and Floyd for sure will not be the A side attraction if he ever fights Pacquiao, so #1- What exactly is Floyd talking about here? And #2- Why does he feel that he deserves more than a 50-50 split over Pacquiao if they were to fight?

Why do you think that Nonito Donaire is fine with the ”next Pacquiao” title and is performing to it, but Ortiz and Vargas before him drowned in the ”next De La Hoya” title?
#1- And first let me start this by saying that Pacquiao is a beast and a great fighter, but being labeled the Next Pacquiao doesn’t carry the same weight as being called the Next De La Hoya. It’s the same as being called the Next Kobe opposed to being called the Next Jordan, with being called the Next Jordan you are dealing with more than just a player you are dealing with a brand. Sure Kobe is doing his thing just as Pacquiao is doing his, but Jordan globalized the sport he earthed it, you can’t see a nike sign without thinking of Jordan. It’s the brand, may sound strange but a fighter sometimes needs to have that special something to them besides being able to fight good. When Jordan played it was an event. It’s the same with Oscar, when Oscar fought it was a huge event, everyone came out. Oscar put asses in seats, Pacquiao does also, but without Oscar on Pacquiao’s resume do you really think Pacquiao is as big as he is now? Mayweather Jr. gets big paydays now as does Pacquiao, but those Huge Paydays are only there because of Oscar, it just is what it is.
#2- Simply because of age, Donaire is 27 or 28 years old. Donaire is in the state of already knowing who he is and what his limitations are, Donaire sees his goal and he knows where to go. With Ortiz and Vargas, the label was being thrown at them at 21, 22 years old. Vargas like Ortiz now was just trying to find himself. If you recall, Vargas when he was at the Olympics was already being told that if he wins the Gold he will be the next one. Now I’m not saying that the main reason for Vargas not coming back with the Gold from the games was because of the next Oscar line, but I will say that presence of pressure was surely there. So then Vargas wanted to surpass Oscar by locking horns with the man Oscar lost to, Felix Trinidad. We all saw how that worked out for Vargas. Then years later, Vargas thought ”to beat my brother, I’m gonna have to beat my brother.” Vargas thought to be the man you must beat the man, in my opinion, if you want or are labeled the ”Next Oscar”, you best know what you’re up against, because the crown is heavy.
Super Six Tourney is going to be explosive, so why are you against it?
When I wrote my piece on the Super Six Tournament, I knew that it would rub people the wrong way. I just knew it. The thing is this, If you go back and read my piece you will find that I wrote that I am Super Excited about the tournament. I feel that it’s great for our sport. If you follow my work, you will find that I love tournaments. Blame it on Mortal Combat, what can I say. When I interviewed Timothy Bradley I mentioned a tournament at 140, when I recently interviewed Allan Green I mentioned a tournament at 168. Trust me when I tell you that I wish we had tournaments in all divisions. That way there would only be one person and one person only that would be called Champion of the world. I love the way how the Super 6 are being presented together, posing in shots and all that. The Super 6 are like Super Heroe’s, someone should start a comic book on them and cast Allan Green, Lucian Bute, and Sakio Bika as the villains trying to take down the Super 6.
What’s your beef with Andre Dirrell?
Here we go again, another line that I knew would come back and bite me on my ass. I hold no beef towards Dirrell, I just feel that for this kind of tournament he is a lil green and the spot should have gone to a real Green, as in Allan Green. I just feel that Green, Bika, and Bute are more deserving for the spot. Some may say Ward is also a lil green for this tourney, but the difference is that Ward handled Miranda quite easy. True, that Miranda beat Green, but Green was in that fight the whole time and Green wasn’t even 100% for that war. In Dirrell’s case, when has he faced a fighter with name recognition and one who is as dangerous as Miranda? Truth be told, I feel that Dirrell is the underdog in this tourney and one should not sleep on this live dog. Dirrell’s fast feet and speed alone could trouble them all.
