DESPITE winning his last three fights, ALA boy Mark Jason Melligen didn’t get much coverage since he was in small boxing events.
Now, he has a chance to show his talent in front of a huge audience both live and on television as his fight will be shown on pay-per-view in the US.
Melligen will be facing another Mexican, Michael Rosales, in a 10-round clash in the undercard of the World Boxing Association super flyweight title fight between Filipino world champion Nonito Donaire Jr. and Rafael Concepcion in Top Rank’s “Pinoy Power 2” on Aug. 15 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu that Top Rank was impressed by the 23-year-old Melligen’s fights and has rewarded him with a big break.
Most important
“He will be shown on pay-per-view in the US and it will also be aired in the Philippines. They (Top Rank) feel that Mark is for real and that he’s got talent,” said Aldeguer.
In his first fight in the US, Melligen stopped unheralded fighter Gerardo Cesar Prieto and then won a unanimous decision over onetime Manny Pacquiao spar mate Ramon Montano.
His latest win was a second-round technical knockout over veteran warrior Fabian Luque.
Aldeguer said this is the most important fight of Melligen’s career and that if he gets past Rosales, bigger fights will be awaiting him in the future.
Bigger fight
“This is his biggest fight. This will be the turning point of his career. He is on the bigger stage. If he wins convincingly, big things will be in store for him,” he said.
After his win over Luque last June 20 in Mexico, the former amateur standout has never stopped training even when he returned to the Philippines.
“He knows how important this fight is. This is what every boxer is waiting for,” said Aldeguer.
