Sending this one out to my boy Dennis is Indianapolis.
Who’s the bad cat who says that Dennis “owned” me? Such a lie, really.
I can be rented but never owned.
I hope this comment does not get deleted.
Dallas Examiner Housecatt Matt Stolow brings up a good closing thought as to the ridiculous John David Jackson/Nate Campbell allegations about Manny Pacquiao ducking and dodging African American fighters back in the day and even now.
As many have pointed out, Pacman can’t wait for Floyd Mayweather Jr., if Juan Manuel Marquez isn’t too “taxing” a problem for him on Sept. 19, to sign up for a fight.
In fact, I think Pacquiao is salivating for the Mayweather confrontation, even though he will go in a betting underdog I believe. That’s the kind of raw dog competitor Packy is.
Truth be told, both PBF and Manny want that Super Fight badly. They can’t make more money than by fighting each other so bring it on. It will be on sometime in 2010, bet on it.
Stolow points out that. although their business marriage ended badly with a court case in which the promoter threw in the towel amidst allegations of impropriety, Pacquaio was promoted for a period of time by an African American from Newark, NJ.
Controversial Murad Muhammad is the guy who had a goldmine ready to be developed.
Reminds me of the old country & western tune about some poor sap’s divorce, “She Got The Goldmine, I Got The Shaft.”
And I don’t mean John Shaft.
Soupy Campbell has/had a black promoter as well. Guy who goes by the name of Donald King of the Cleveland Family.
To show his gratitude for King doing everything but setting up the ring in Cancun for his breakthrough upset victory over Juan “Baby Bull” Diaz, what did Campbell do?
He started busting DK’s horns and tried the old baby, I am bankrupt legal ruse to get rid of his promotional contract.
I heard the other day that Campbell is still trying to kick King to the curb but is having difficulty.
Barnacles don’t stick to a pier the way Uncle Don can glue himself to a contract.
And why shouldn’t he as he did plenty for Soupy.
I guess that’s why we have three categories of boxers in the world.
First, we have the greats such as Pinoy Idol Pacman.
Second, we have the near greats such as prospect turned suspect Victor Ortiz.
Third, we have all thesurly guys like Campbell, the ingrates.
A Filipino who chose an African American as his promoter, albeit for a short and bruising period.
That’s virulent racism, is it not?
I won’t even mention that the promoter is a Muslim.
Jackson and Campbell may jump on that next, the nitpickers.
I hear there’s no truth to the rumors that the bill challenged Muhammad will be taking over as Pretty Boy Floyd’s new financial adviser.
You want to talk ducking and dodging?
The bill or invoice has yet to be written that can nail the mobile Muhammad.
He never gets behind on financial obligations. He has a unique system.
He just ignores them completely.
Having said that, I still like Murad. My bill collectors and landlord don’t like the man but I do.
He can be tres amusing.
He once said a fighter hailed from “that place where they have the guys in the little boats…what do you call it, yeah Venezuela.”
He’s the Yogi Berra of boxing when it comes to malaprops.
In the New York Post, I referecned him as “Moron Muhammad.”
This went for a few years and one fine day, he said to me, “Do you know you’re spelling Murad wrong?”
I never made the correction.
Guess I’m a racist too like Pacquiao.
I did vote enthusiastically for Obama but, hey, I did not know the man was black until I saw the Inauguration.
You could’ve knocked me over with a featherweight when I saw that.
