At 5’11”, the 26-year old Mexican Michel Rosales is like a towering inferno to some of his opponents. He is literally a tall order, especially, to Filipino standards. His boxing credentials are also over powering. He is a power puncher by knocking out 21 of his 24 opponents. He has 3 losses, unfortunately, by knockout also. However, this does not deter him from winning the WBC FECOMBOX light middleweight title only few days ago last June 20, 2009 on a very close fight against previuously unbeaten Mexican Luis Fernando Uribe (21 (16KO), 1 loss) who at 5’10” is about his height.
These are the facts that will confront Filipino Triple “M” Might Mark (Jason) Melligen come fight night on August 15, 2009 against Rosales as an undercard of the championship bout between Filipino IBF/IBO flyweight champion Nonito Donaire of San Leandro, California and Panamian Rafael Concepcion for the interim WBA World super flyweight title at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Melligen could have seen how Rosales fight as he was the undercard of Rosales vs. Uribe fight when he won on a 2nd-round TKO against Fabian Luque.
The 23-year old Melligen who likes to be called “Mighty” as coined by one of his American friends because the name comes from the word “Almighty” in total surrender to his belief will look up to heaven as he look up to his opponent for a safe and successful fight as he usually does in every fight like Manny Pacquiao making the sign of the cross.
With Rosales towering over him by 4 inches, Melligen’s trainers Tony Martin and Villamor will surely come up with a good plan and strategy to offset the height and reach advantage of Rosales. Also, Melligen needs to make the necessary adjustment to ensure that he doesn’t need to look up that high to find his target. For one thing, Rosales might be tall but he might not be that fast. His reach might be long but Melligen’s tight defense and effective offense and counter-punches are methodical and skillful. Not to mention that Melligen also possesses power punches as proven by his 11 knockouts in 15 wins against only 1 loss.
Melligen’s debut in America on March 7, 2009 which was a 6th round TKO against Mexican Gerardo Cesar Prieto was held in Mile Hight Events Center, Commerce City, Colorado where the main event as between Mike Alvarado and Emmanuel Clottey where Alvarado won on a 10th round knockout. Mike Alvarado (26 (18KO), 0,0) who is 5’9″ previously knockout Michel Rosales on the 7th round of their scheduled 10-round bout last year on May 9, 2008 in Isleta Casino & Resort, Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is now time for Melligen to knockout Rosales to earn a much needed boost to his resume.
