n the latest edition of “Keeping up with the Donaires”, Rachel Marcial-Donaire confirms that Nonito Donaire Jr. is set to fight Rafael Concepcion [13 W(KO 8) + 3L (KO 2) + 1D] from Panama at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino and Events Center in Las Vegas on August 15.
Rachel also talks about Nonito’s previous blog entry and shares her thoughts about Michael Jackson’s death, Chris Brown and living in a deserted island. I also posted a video from the Donaires personal Vlog as they prove how “balut” is indeed beneficial to a person’s knees.

Writer’s note: I know this is kinda off-topic but when somebody as influential and as big as Michael Jackson dies, the effect and trauma sort of leaves an impression everywhere else. As for myself, I was a big fan of MJ when I was a kid. I saw him up-close live when he staged a concert back in Paranaque, Philippines. It’s sad that such a talented and successful person had to pass away so early. Even sadder is how he lived a troubled and tumultuous life. Jackson was always surrounded by controversy and cameras all his life and you just can’t help but feel for the kid. I say kid because it almost seemed like Jackson, who died at age 50, was trapped in his childhood’s state of mind. By no means am I a psychiatrist but when you see a black guy change his skin color to white, then you already know something’s not right. Hopefully “the man in the mirror” can now have peace away from all the paparazzis and the controversy. RIP to the “King of Pop”.

Dear Diary,
So Sunday, was my official birthday and of course Fathers Day. My lolo and lola (grandpa and grandma in Filipino) came over and had dinner. I read my blog aloud to my dad and it put a smile on his face. He’s always game and light-hearted so I know he appreciated it. I constantly went looking for Nonito, who was downstairs in our room, picking out pictures of him and his father to post on his blog. The sadness in the air at that time was immeasurable. I sat down next to him and heard him tell me stories all night, about trips to Great America or Marine World, about how life was much simpler then. Every now and then, he’d shove a picture in my hand, telling me “Keep this one, scan it, so I always have it.” You even saw the ones where his dad wrote on the back, “Me holding my second born son, Nonito Jr.” That put a small smile on his face. Just reading the word “son”.
I have to tell you, writing blogs and taking videos really allows you to learn about yourself. ..And I know the blog he wrote on Sunday really opened up a lot of feelings he held in for so long. See the thing with Nonito is that he is a very happy person. He doesn’t like negativity and so forth. So if anyone ever asked him, what’s bothering you? He always would say nothing. He would never tell you he’s hurt, or he misses you, or anything. So I sat and I listened as he blogged about the inner truth, the thing that tugged at his soul the most-his family. And while I know time will heal all wounds, it always aches me to know there is nothing I can do right now to make it all better for him.
I truly see how broken families play a role on the children. If there is anything I’d want to change is the view of marriage and of women in general. Marriage isn’t taken into lightly and should have all aspects considered, especially with children involved. It’s a sacred vow. I’d also love to be an advocate for Single Mothers-ones who were the mistresses left to fend for themselves, or ones that were lured into human trafficking and now have to live with the aftermath. Angel Locsin is a real big advocate for women?s rights. I think she’s part of a women’s advocacy group called Gabriella? Something like that. I really look up to people who use their influence or popularity to be a voice for those who don’t have one, and also make a change, not like others who only try to milk money out of the system.
Chris Brown pleaded guilty against Rhianna. What a jerk!! He was denying the allegations for sooo long. I don’t think any guy who puts their hand on a woman is a man at all. I mean one must remember that as much as a man provided the sperm-50% of what makes a human, the woman also is responsible and deserves equal amount of respect. Would he treat his mother that way? How horrible!!
Kind of random but could you believe Michael Jackson is dead?!! Everywhere I went today, there was a tribute to the King of Pop. Even during Nonito’s practice today they were playing MJ’s songs. That is one man, although led a very trivial life, who broke down the racial barriers through music.
Let?s change subjects.
Yay! There’s a fight this weekend between Juanma and Lotchi. I get to have my friends over again to watch it on the 64-inch. There’s not much fights between now and Nonito’s. Oh by the way, Cameron informed me that Rafael Concepcion is locked in for August 15. Funny, two Concepcions (Bernabe and Rafael) fighting on the same day, and not related! =P I can’t believe they postponed his fight to begin with because of the H1N1 scare. How in the WORLD did it get there? It wasn’t there before the Pacman vs Hatton fight. Man, the only way to be safe is to go to your own island. Think Mr. Virgin Records guy minds safe-havening a couple people? LOL Yea right!! Heard that place is bank to stay at. Have you seen that place though? Absolutely gorgeous! And guess what? Marquez vs Mayweather is back on. Mysteriously, his rib is healed!! Lol.
Oh, we watched Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Geez, that was a long movie! Our movie was at 1pm and we got to the car around 4:10pm! It was a pretty good movie though, but not as good as The Hangover. Right now, nothing is topping that one. If you haven’t seen it, you are totally missing out!
Anywho, my dad held paddles for me today and I kicked out for a bit. It felt great but my hip was bugging me again. Need to see Dr. Healer Dude -my name for our Chiropractor here LOL. Gotta bring Nonito running at 6am so I should get some shut eye.
