Floyd cleared to fight!
Floyd Mayweather, Jr.’s rib injury has gotten a lot better since he apparently is out of the Manny Pacquiao sweepstakes and the IRS is hounding him.
His scheduled fight with Juan Manual Marquez, originally set for July 18th, is now back on and for September 19th at the MGM Grand Las Vegas. Suggested price is $49.95 for pay per view.
Actually Mayweather, Jr. was medically cleared to fight.
While not even fighting, Pacquiao looms large over this fight because he probably awaits the winner – if he gets past Miguel Cotto November 14th.
Mayweather vs. Marquez is a big fight. Rumors of poor ticket sales for the original July 18th date have been refuted by Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaeffer. But the poor economy in general and the Las Vegas economy specifically must have had some effect on the original postponement of the July date.
I imagine Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, would like to see the Mayweather vs. Marquez promotion fail because it would give him much greater leverage over either winner in negotiating a fight with Pacquiao.
