oxing betting handicappers have been waiting for the return of Miguel Cotto and surprise, surprise, for a fourth consecutive year he will be fighting on the eve of the Puerto Rican day parade.
Miguel Cotto vs Joshua Clottey
Cotto was a rising star in the boxing ranks until his career got derailed by a certain Antonio Margarito. The question is, was that fair or was it foul?
Margarito surprisingly bullied around Cotto and handed him his first knockout loss but in his next fight, he was busted with plaster under his gloves. Margarito has since been suspended by the commission.
If Cotto did lose unfairly, as some believe, then he was essentially robbed of a potential prize fight instead of another tune up, which he?ll have to deal with.
While Cotto is capable of smacking around Clottey ? there?s little question about that ? the real issue is that fair or not, Cotto was knocked down and handed a loss, and a fighter isn?t always the same after tasting those bitter tastes for the first time.
Cotto bounced back quickly and regained a title after beating Michael Jennings earlier this year and now he?ll continue to plow on if he can win against Clottey.
Clottey isn?t a pushover, though, and there are some factors that come into play that could give him the win.
For starters, if Cotto is already eyeing the winner of the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Juan Manuel Marquez fight, or Manny Pacquiao, and Cotto isn?t focused on what?s in front of him, Clottey is capable of waking him up.
Clottey is also a step up from Jennings, so boxing betting experts know that in general, this fight will be a bigger challenge. Cotto will once again have to prove that he?s over his loss and over his knockout.
The good news for Cotto is he is in his comfort zone. He?s back at home in front of his fans at Madison Square Gardens and he?s again fighting on the eve of the Puerto Rican Parade. That?s enough to give the Puerto Rican Cotto the win.
