The right hook that initially floored Hatton in the first round of their Las Vegas fight is popularly known as “Manila Ice”. It took Pacquiao four years to be comfortable with Manila Ice. The right hook started to be noticeable in his fight with David Diaz. But it was only in his fight with Hatton where its devastating effect was in full display.
“We knew from the south paw stance that Ricky wont be able to deal with the right hook,” Roach told the Broadcast Boxing. “He was worrying about the right side. He forgot about the devastating left hand, which is always Manny’s number one shot. He just walk into it.”
With Manila Ice finding its way easily into Pacquiao’s boxing armour, Manny is now a two fisted fighter. Pacman’s next opponent has to be prepared to face someone who fights with two hands. In addition to that, they have to be wary with his fast hands and quick footwork.
