Manny to train in new gym, away from spies

OTHER than acquire extra skills, Manny Pacquiao yesterday vowed to move out of Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood and train in a new gym to prevent spies from studying his moves.

There will be no more training distractions, Pacquiao said during yesterday’s SCOOP Sa Kamayan on Padre Faura, Manila.

Pacquiao, who lost to Mexican Erik Morales via a close but unanimous decision in Las Vegas last month, vowed to set things right when he leaves for training in the United States on April 12.

“I will now practice in a place where no one can bother me,” said Pacquiao, who is set to re turn to the ring in July against a still unnamed opponent. “I’ll stay in a place where no one can see me. This way, no one can study my moves.”

Pacquiao admitted earlier that his much-hyped training sessions at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, owned by his American trainer Freddie Roach, partly affected his conditioning in his last fight.

“We couldn’t turn people away at Wild Card,” he said. “So I plan to train in Arizona or Big Bear, California.”

Pacquiao is also reportedly set to file a case against American promoter Murad Muhammad for not giving his share in pay-per-view revenues.

“Mahabang panahon niya na akong niloloko [He has been cheating me for years],” said Pacquiao, noting that he only has one more fight to fulfill before his contract with Murad expires.

Pacquiao said he and his new manager, Shelly Finkel, were determining how much he really owes the US Internal Revenue Service in terms of taxes. Pacquiao’s American lawyer Keith Davidson alleged that Pacquiao’s former handlers, including business manager Rod Nazario, had been remiss in their duties to properly pay the US government taxes for his fights dating back to 2001.

Pacquiao’s July fight will serve as a tune-up for his rematch against Morales within the year.

“I’ve already accepted that I lost,” said Pacquiao, who remained the Ring Magazine’s featherweight king despite his recent defeat. “In every loss, I learn something. I’ll be more focused in my next fight.”
