Popular Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao recently announced his preference to fight Floyd Mayweather, Jr. if he wins over Juan Manuel Marquez in their upcoming fight on July 18th. But Shane Mosley is eager to face Pacquiao as well at an agreed catch weight WBA welterweight champion Shane Mosley says he is eager to fight Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, the current pound-for pound king and the world?s most popular boxer.
But many boxing fans are asking: Is the Pacquiao-Mosley fight possible? Of course it is possible. The fight can happen if they both agree on a certain weight or catch weight.
Mosley is the current WBA 147 pound champion. He stands at 5?9? inches with a much superior built than Pacquiao. He also enjoys an advantage in reach.
The Pacquiao-Mosley fight though is quite remote at this time. Pacquiao is much smaller and physically inferior than Mosley. There is a wide difference in physical statistics between the two fighters. Mosley is 37 years old while Pacquiao is only 30.
In January 26 issue of DJ, this writer asked the same question but this time the answer seems clearer as Floyd Mayweather,Jr.has decided to come out of retirement and he is one reason why Shane Mosley is still in the waitlisted list of possible Pacquiao contenders.
Yahoo news reports:
“There are conflicting reports from the Pacquiao camp an upcoming fight between me and Manny Pacquiao,” Mosley said.
“I want it to be known that I want to fight Pacquiao and I want to fight him now. I’m willing to meet at a catch weight to make that happen.
“I know this is what Freddie Roach wants as well. I am the best fighter in boxing and I am ready to reclaim the title of number one pound-for-pound fighter.”
Mosley is fresh from his ninth round knock out fight with Antonio Margarito while Pacquiao is enjoying his pound-for-pound king title with his May 2 knock out win over Ricky Hatton of England.
