Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Emmanuel Angeles bared over the weekend that boxing will be included in the 2010 national games.
The Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) included the sport in its recent national meet and has asked CHED to include it in the national games calendar.
?They really asked for it, that?s why we will be including the sport,?? said Angeles. ?We in the education sector believe that there are many male students who love boxing and would like to follow [pound-for-pound champion Manny] Pacquiao?s footsteps.
?He [Pacquiao] is an inspiration to the whole education sector especially to the youth,? added Angeles.
There are also plans to merge the PRISAA and the State Colleges and Universities Athletics Association to come up with an integrated sports program for higher education institutions.
?Kailangan sama-sama na ang private and state colleges lalo na sa sporting competition because they have the same goal anyway,?? he said.
On April 19 to 25, PRISAA held the National Games in Naga City where 5,000 athletes from 17 regions of the country took part.
The Private Schools Athletic Association was organized on February 17, 1953, through the initiative of the director of the bureau of private schools, Dr. Manuel Carreon.
The PRISAA games include athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, chess, dance sports, football, lawn tennis, karatedo, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.
