We’ve all heard it before: the younger, hungrier, stronger fighter will almost always beat the older champion and it was proven again last night when Manny Pacquiao knocked out Marco Antonio Barerra. The fact of the matter is that Barerra is still a great fighter and at least in the first round or two, he didn’t look particularly bad. He did look slower than Pacquiao, but the educated pre-fight observer knew he was going to be the slower fighter going in.
Let’s make one thing clear, Marco Antonio Barerra was not overrated. He didn’t even look “old” on Saturday night. Pacquiao just looked “young” with more energy, more enthusiasm, more hunger and more power. Like a young Michael Carbajal, he was not going to be denied.
