THE Cebu City Government will be giving P42,000 to the medalists of the recently concluded 1st Smart-Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines Visayas Championships in Ormoc City last month.
Cebu City Councilor Sylvan ?Jack? Jakosalem told Sun.Star Cebu the City Government will give P3,000 each to the nine gold medalists, P2,000 to the six silver medalists and P1,000 to the three bronze medal winners.
?We will need a few months to release the funding but it?s already appropriated,? Jakosalem said.
The winning amateur boxers and their coach Efren Tabanas paid Jakosalem a visit at his office at the Cebu City Hall yesterday, where the aspiring fighters handed over the overall championship trophy to the councilor.
?It feels good to be back on top again. We will be pushing for the hosting of the national tournament here,? said Jakosalem.
The gold medalists for Cebu are Margarito Moya, Jack Tepora, Danlou Codilla, Junlem Payao, Edu Serrano, Andriano Pescante, Anthony Sabalde, Marjun Baliguat and Joelito Tuastumban.
Those who won silver medals are Melmark Dignos, Junrel Jimenez, Velmark Dignos, Allan Repula, Timoteo Altubar and Ranni Calumba, while the bronze medal winners are Ardie Boyose, Rodel Yap and Jerry Mancio.
Tepora was also named the Best Boxer for the School Boys (13-14 years old) category, while Sabalde won the award in the Youth Boys category.
