CEBU City Councilor Sylvan ?Jack? Jakosalem wants the City to host another national amateur boxing championship this year.
?We will bid for the national championship for Cebu. It has been so long since we hosted the national amateur boxing championship and I want to host one since we are now back in contention,? Jakosalem told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Cebu City?s amateur boxing team won the overall title in the 1st Smart ABAP Area Boxing Tournament for the Visayas held in Ormoc City last week.
The Cebu City fighters brought home nine gold medals, six silvers and two bronze medals to win the overall title over 13 other teams.
Two of Cebu?s fighters were also named best boxers in their respective divisions?Jack Tepora in the School Boys division and Anthony Sabalde in the Youth Boys Class.
?It shows we can improve with the help of the city government. I am very proud to have the team winning the championships again,? said Jakosalem.
Cebu City hosted the national tournament in 2002 after the Team Cebu City Boxing won the overall title in Iriga City competition in 2001.
That was also during the first term of Jakosalem as a councilor and his first year as the chairman of the committee on games, amusement and professional sports in the Cebu City council.
Now on his final term, Jakosalem said he wants the City to host another meet before he leaves the City Council.
