The Boxing Writers Association of America has announced that the third bout in the epic trilogy between Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez has won the group’s 2008 fight of the year award.
It was a bout that when the final bell rang fight fans immediately knew they would remember this fight for the rest of their lives. In the thrilling conclusion to their trilogy Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez waged a war that somehow managed to be better than their previous two bouts.
It comes as no surprise that Vazquez vs Marquez has been named the 2008 fight of the year by the Boxing Writers Association of America. The back and forth war was culminated by an unbelievable knockdown by Vazquez in the closing seconds which sealed the deal for his split decision victory.
Vazquez who was already a fan favorite among boxing fans has been amazed by the amount of support and adulation this fight has earned him. “The trilogy between Rafael Marquez and I will forever stay in the hearts of those that followed it and the love and respect that the fans, and now the media has displayed, has been nothing less than wonderful and very much appreciated.”

The award will be presented along with several others June 12 in New York City during the annual BWAA dinner.
