Magbanua faces undefeated Costa Rican on April 18

THE joint boxing promotion of international promoter Sammy Gello-ani and Vice-Governor Manny Pi?ol is now set on April 18 at the Cebu Coliseum.

Braveheart?s Rolando Magbanua (14-0, 9 KOs), who was originally scheduled to trade fists with former world champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin on April 4, will now be up against fellow unbeaten fighter Alejandro Martinez (15-0-1, 8 KOs) of Costa Rica.

Magbanua will defend his interim World Boxing Organization Oriental bantamweight crown which he won against Mexican Jose Cota last Feb. 21.

Martinez replaced Sor Vorapin after the Thai fighter couldn?t come in time for the fight.

?This is a good match up between two new prospects,? Gello-ani said in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu.

Also scheduled to be in the boxing promotion is veteran Cebuano pugilist Bert Batawang (48-11-1, 36 KOs), who will dangle his WBO Oriental light flyweight title against Braveheart Boxing Club?s Edrin Dapudong (13-2, 7 KOs).

Hard-hitting Jundy Maraon (13-0-1, 10 KOs) is also being considered in the boxing event if he gets a medical clearance.

Maraon injured his hand during his fight with Jason Egera. He stopped Egera in the third round during their encounter last. Feb 21 at the Cebu Coliseum.

?We will have his injury checked. I think he will be in the card but this isn?t definite yet,? said the Cebu-based promoter.

Rommel Asenjo and Lorenzo Villanueva are also in the fight card against still to be determined foes.
