AFTER ALA Boy Z ?The Dream? Gorres? successful bantamweight debut last Saturday against former world champion Roberto Leyva, ALA Promotions is now shopping for the best foe in the division to boost his rankings for a future world title shot.
ALA Promotions is searching for a tough opponent for Gorres?s possible June fight in the US.
?He proved that he?s back and much stronger at 118. We?ll see what will happen in the rankings and if his rank improves .
We?re going to let him face a tougher opponent in his next fight,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview.
Last Saturday, Gorres pummeled Leyva in seven rounds, forcing the Mexican?s corner to throw in the towel.
Fighters that Gorres? handlers are looking at are former world champion Dimitri Kirilov (29-4-1, 9 KOs), veteran Mexican fighter Heriberto Ruiz (40-7-2, 23 KOs), Jose Navarro (26-4, 12 KOs) and Rafael Concepcion (13-3-1, 8 KOs).
Avenge
Should he get a shot against Ruiz or Concepcion, Gorres will have a chance to avenge the losses of his stablemates.
Ruiz defeated Rey Bautista in December 2008, while Concepcion also defeated AJ Banal in June last year for the WBA super flyweight title.
Gorres will be campaigning in the US and will be training in Freddie Roach?s famed Wild Card Gym along with Edito Villamor.
However, the main target of ALA Promotions for Gorres is a rematch with former WBO super flyweight titlist Fernando Montiel.
?Montiel is our logical choice because he will be fighting for the WBO title,? said Aldeguer.
Interim title
Montiel will be fighting for the interim WBO bantamweight crown against Argentinean Diego Silva on March 28 in Mexico. Montiel defeated Gorres in their world title fight in 2007 via a controversial split decision in Cebu City.
On the other hand, Aldeguer said that if Vic Darchinyan, who fought Gorres to a draw in 2008, will go up in the bantamweight category and is amenable to a rematch, then they would gladly grab the opportunity.
?If Darchinyan comes our way, then why not,? said Aldeguer.
