FOLLOWING an impressive debut in the US, Top Rank Promotions has shown interest in ALA boy Mark Jason Melligen and has set him up with a fight against former Manny Pacquiao sparring mate Ramon Montano.
Top Rank Promotions is looking for a young prospect and Melligen is on their radar.
To further evaluate the young junior welterweight?s talent, Bob Arum?s famed promotional outfit will be putting Melligen in a boxing event on the eve of the Pacquiao-Haton mammoth battle against a credible opponent.
?Top Rank is serious about Melligen. They were impressed with his last fight,? ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer, who handles Melligen, told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Aldeguer said this is Melligen?s most daunting task yet because this fight could determine if he has what it takes to excel in the US.
?This will be the biggest test for Melligen. Montanto is a good opponent for Melligen because he has faced named fighters. With this fight we will be able to have a really good evaluation of him,? said Aldeguer.
The US-based Mexican Montano has 17 victories, six defeats and two draws with two knockouts and has never been stopped in his six-year professional career.
He has faced former world champion David Diaz in 2008 but lost via a majority decision and also figured in a draw with undefeated World Boxing Association number three ranked fighter Dimitri Salita in 2006.
