MANILA, Philippines – Solar Sports offers a two-month boxing bonanza featuring three of the country?s current world champions highlighted by Manny Pacquiao?s title duel with Ricky Hatton on May 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The telecast began last weekend with a pair of 10-rounders featuring unbeaten super-lightweight Mike Alvarado in Denver, USA, before climaxing with the Pacquiao-Hatton showdown.
The program schedule includes the title defense of Nonito Donaire Jr and Gerry Pe?alosa.
The 26-year old Donaire stakes his International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight crown against undefeated Mexican Raul Martinez on April 18 at the Araneta Coliseum in a double championship offering that will also see Fil-Am Brian Viloria challenging titlist Ulises Solis for the IBF junior flyweight belt.
A week later (April 25), the country?s top sports channel goes to the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseo in Bayamon, Puerto Rico where the 36-year old Pe?alosa defends his World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight crown against local hero Juan Manuel Lopez.
Then on May 2, Pacquiao climbs the ring for the first time in 2009 as he takes on British world champion Hatton in a bout many boxing experts predict as one of the best fights of the year.
Also part of Solar Sports? boxing special for the next eight weeks are the ?Latin Fury 8-Tijuana Thunder? and the unification championship fight between Kendall Holt and Timothy Bradley.
Leading the way in the Latin Fury 8 boxing card to be held at the Plaza de Toros Monumental, Tijuana, Mexico is rising boxing star Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. against Luciano Cuello.
