Popular Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez is determined to have another chance to fight Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao but he has to win first on Saturday when he squares off with Juan Diaz of Texas at the Toyota Center in Texas. In Texas, all roads lead to Toyota Center in Houston for a major boxing event of the year as the very popular Mexican boxer Juan Manuel Marquez tangles with Juan Diaz, a young and equally popular American boxer from Texas this Saturday.
Marquez became popular when he fought Manny Pacquiao in 2004. Although he was knocked down three times in the first round he managed to carry on until the last round and settled for a draw. Marquez claimed that he clearly won on points in that fight despite his knockdown early in the round. Their first encounter in 2004 ended in a split draw and Marquez managed retained his IBF and WBA titles.
The Pacquiao-Marquez second encounter took place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada where Manny Pacquiao won by split decision. Marquez fought gallantly throughout the fight but he suffered an early knock down that proved to be the deciding factor in giving the fight to Pacquiao
A few weeks after their Las Vegas encounter, Marquez chased Pacquiao for a rematch. He traveled as far as Manila to meet with Pacquiao almost begging him for one last chance. But Manny decided to go up the lightweight category and fought David Diaz instead. Manny won the fight via KO.
After the Pacquiao-Diaz match, Marquez continued his quest for another crack at Pacquiao but again Pacquiao could not give in to Marquez request as he decided to accept Oscar de la Hoy?s offer for the now famous ?Dream Match?.
Marquez is not giving up in his desire to show the boxing world that he can beat Pacquiao. But most boxing fans believe that the real reason is that the Pacquiao-Marquez fight is a proven money maker and Marquez knew it, so did his boxing promoters. Boxing fans say ?money talks?, in reference to the huge revenues that the fight will generate.
In order to keep his hope alive for another chance to fight Manny Pacquiao, Marquez must first dispose of Juan Diaz in their encounter at the Toyota Center this Saturday. But then Marquez is faced with a formidable opponent in Juan Diaz. This young boxer from Texas has a very impressive credential.
Juan Diaz is an American-Mexican boxer from Houston, Texas. He is only 26 years old but has a professional boxing record of 35 fights, winning 34 and losing only once. His only loss was with Nate Campbell who just won over Ali Funeka of South Africa a few days ago in Florida. His latest fight was with Michael Katsides of Australia which he won via split decision to become the new IBO Lightweight champion.
