THE much-awaited back-to-back battle of ALA boys Z ?The Dream? Gorres and Milan ?Milenyo? Melindo will be moved to March 14 because some of the ALA Gym personnel will fly to Mexico to accompany World Boxing Organization mini-fly weight champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes in his second title defense on Feb. 29 (RP time).
Gorres and Melindo were supposed to fight on Feb. 28 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Cebu City, but ALA Promotions decided yesterday to move the fight.
?We just rescheduled it this afternoon because some of the trainers will be going to Mexico with Donnie,? said ALA Promotions? president Michael Alde-guer in an interview yester-day by Sun.Star Cebu.
Trainer
ALA Promotions will be sending trainer Edmund Villamor to Oxaca, Mexico to be in the corner of Nietes (23-1-3, 14 KO?s), in his fourth fight outside the Philippines, when he clashes with Mexican challenger Erik Ramirez (25-5-1, 19 KO?s).
The 26-year-old world champion won his only fight in 2008, when he knocked out Nicaraguan world title contender Eddy Castro (12-4-1, 9 KO?s) in the second round.
Meanwhile, ALA Promotions is still searching for a worthy opponent for Gorres (28-2-2, 15 KO?s) in his bantamweight debut, after Cecilio Santos (22-9-3, 12 KO?s) turned down the prospective match-up, while Melindo (17-0, 5 KO?s) is set to fight former world champion Muham-mad Rachman (62-6-5, 31 KO?s).
Bohol fight
ALA stars AJ ?Bazooka? Banal and Czar Amonsot will be leaving today for Bohol for their return bout on Jan. 31.
Banal (17-1-1, 14 KO?s) will be facing Indonesian champion Zouldy Manakane (17-7-1, 8 KO?s), while Amonsot (18-3-1, 10 KO?s) will tested by top Indonesian fighter Zoel Fidal (16-6-2, 7 KO?s).
Banal is off from a heartbreaking loss to Panamanian brawler Rafael Concepcion (12-3-1, 8 KO?s) for the World Boxing Association interim super flyweight title last July 26, while Amonsot is fresh from a long lay-off from boxing after suffering a head injury due to his brutal and bloody war with Michael ?The Great? Katsidis (22-2, 20 KO?s) in July 2007.
Aldeguer also revealed yesterday that after Banal?s fight, he will be sent to Freddie Roach?s famed Wild Card Gym to train there and further hone his boxing skills.
