Ricky Hatton’s lawyer Gareth Williams has told me tonight that he is now “extremely optimistic” of the superfight between his client and Manny Pacquiao moving ahead.
I can reveal that Williams has not yet seen a signed contract, but according to Williams, Hatton’s promoter in the United States, Richard Schaefer, CEO of Gold BOy Promotions, has a signed photostat of the contract signed by the great Filipino fighter.
It has been a bumpy fortnight, and some reparation will need to go on to recreate the media tour for the two fighters, with the fight expected to be announced officially by Hatton early next week.
The intrigue has just made it a greater contest. All we need now is a brilliant contest between the two pugilists on May 2. From the get-go, I have favoured Pacquiao in this fight. Hatton has it all to prove against The Philippines’ national treasure, who demolished Oscar De La Hoya in eight pulsating rounds in December. Game on.
