Only Color Of Money Involved In Brawl Over Pacquiao-Hatton Bout!

Wake up it?s Obama time! Only weak-minded people see racism where it does not exist.

It says here that racism is pass? in boxing, save for a nitwit named Bernard Hopkins and maybe a few other Neanderthals who want to talk about ?white boys? and other such nonsense. (I don’t even think BHop is deep down racist but he mistakenly thought referring to Joe Calzaghe’s pigmentation would make a cute promotional hook.)

No one is going around calling Manny Pacquiao the ?Little Brown Doll? of boxing.

But I will agree that Pacman?s fight with his own promoter, Bob Arum, and with the Golden Boy/Ricky Hatton team is about color.

The color of British pound notes, of the US dollar and of the Filipino peso.

The goal of all boxing promoters, be they white, black or green, is to pay the fighter as little as possible thus ensuring a bigger profit margin for their own coffers.

A boxer?s manager has a fiduciary obligation to the fighter and the promoter does not.

Pacquiao only does business with the Golden Boys when he fights. Bob Arum and Top Rank are doing business, good business, with Oscar De La Hoya on a lot of other fronts, the Jan. 24 Antonio Margarito-Sugar Shane Mosley HBO bout in Los Angeles being a prime example.

When Pacquiao hangs up his gloves, Top Rank?s grubby hands and the velvet-gloved hands of Golden Boy will both leave his pocket.

Long after Megamanny has retired from the ring, you know that Top Rank will be co-promoting fights with De La Hoya?s outfit when it leads to mutual profits.

Hence the old and hoary yet so true phrase: the fighters come and the fighters go but the promoters stay on forever.

When Marvelous Marvin Hagler packed it in after a bitter and undeserving loss to Sugar Ray Leonard, Arum did what promoters do. He moved on to developing and then milking his next cash cow.

Bob Arum as a dairy farmer, what a concept.

So you chat room trolls who want to make the Pacman-Hatton financial fight into UK vs. the Philippines, please stop the inanity.

You can still find rampant racism in this world but it?s not involved in a business battle between various millionaires.

Racism in this brawl?

That?s rich.
