FORMER world title contender Eriberto ?Yukka? Gejon will attempt to improve his status as he will be facing top RP fighter Ronald Castrodes in the monthly boxing series Summit ?Fight Night? boxing tour at the Gaisano Countrymall car park on Jan. 18.
Gejon, who was once at the top of the mini flyweight class, intends to improve his position and is aiming to challenge again for a world title.
?My aim is to get back to the top 10 world contenders,? said the former world title contender.
Status
ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer is slowly re-establishing Gejon?s status as one of the elite Filipino pugilists.
?We?re trying to bring him back,? Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview, yesterday. ?Right now he is more seasoned than he was before. He?s improving. He can be one of the top caliber fighters in the Philippines.?
Aldeguer feels that this will be a straightforward fight for Gejon because he has once fought the best in his division. However they are not taking opponent lightly.
?Gejon should do well. There?s no reason for him not to because he has already fought for a world title,? said Aldeguer. ?We?re not taking his opponent easily because he can be a spoiler. Some fighters tend to turn their performance up a notch when they fight a named fighter.?
Gejon has been training hard for second fight in the Philippines since his unsuccessful campaign in Japan. He has been sparring with top ALA fighters Milan ?Milenyo? Melindo and World Boxing Organization mini flyweight king Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes.
If Gejon, who has a 24-4-1 boxing slate with 14 knockouts, wins impressively against Castrodes then he will be given an opportunity to fight a foreign fighter.
