The Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines is working out a computer ranking system where all Filipino amateur boxers from different weight classes will be rated and ranked accordingly.
ABAP secretary-general Patrick Gregorio yesterday told The STAR he had met with the people from the boxing website philboxing.com to establish a regular ranking system that will be made available on the web.
?I have met with many people because we have plans of integrating the facility of philboxing.com with more amateur news for us to study computerized rankings of the top 10 boxers in all weight divisions,? said Gregorio.
?Of course, we will use the technology of Smart for this computer driven ranking system. We?re studying all these and we?re excited and open to all possibilities,? he said.
ABAP wants to monitor the progress of the members of the national team and training pool and other prospects from the provinces.
Gregorio said the ranking and points system will be patterned after that used by the AIBA, the world governing body of the sport.
Gregorio drew up ABAP?s plan after a four-day consultation trip in Baguio, Davao in Mindanao and Cebu and Bacolod in the Visayas where it also looked for potential satellite training venues.
ABAP is redesigning its boxing program, with emphasis on the grassroots, in line with its goal of capturing the country?s first-ever Olympic gold medal, possibly in the 2012 London Games.
