Pacquiao to retire in 2010 or thereabouts?
Balderdash, poppycock, total nonsense or so opines your White Gorilla.
Fat chance that will happen.
Who the hell is Delpilar and where is from?
I?ve no idea. I just know that he is a locked and loaded Boxingconfidential regular and that he often posts sensible thoughts and ideas in our underused comments section.
Delpilar is clearly a Pacnuthugger and I can relate to that. In short, he seems to be a cool and copacetic cat and I would guess he is from Cebu, Bacalod or else Dubai where he toils 11 months of the year as an OFW.
Or maybe he is part of GMA’s cabinet over at Malacanang, I don’t know.
But this sermon isn?t about him, it?s about Manny Pacquaio.
Delpilar posts that Megamanny will go into politricks full time in 2010 and that this is his final year in the boxing ring.
How wrong and offbase can one guy be?
Go tell it to the Marines, buddy, because I am hurting if I am not certain that Pacman will still be punching people in the face for profit until he?s age 35, maybe even 36.
History tells us that top notch fighters making the big money do not walk away willingly. Our boxing landscape is littered with guys who should know better, who are beyond rich, and who just won?t quit.
Ego and millions, those are the reasons these boxers stay too long at the fair. As the late, great boxer Izzy Grove often said, “Yesterday’s cheers have a short echo, my friend, but good quality bonds can keep you financially comfortbale forever.”
Do you think Manny?s twinkling star, at home and abroad, won?t be diminished if he is elected Official Dogcatcher of Gensan? I can see Manny taking a hiatus, maybe a year off, but it won?t stick.
I?m not saying he will need a beatdown or two to want to hang them up. I?m saying the bright lights and the big money will keep Pacquiao going until his mid-30?s, maybe longer.
Mark it down, Delpilar, because four, five years from now you will be forced to say: White Gorilla did not speak with forked tongue.
Check back with me in 2012 when Manny has just won his sixth out of seven bouts against that pesky Juan Manuel Marquez.
If the good Lord is willing and the crick don’t rise, I’ll be around to accept my winning bets on this silly matter.
Pass the Benecol and praise the Pacman!
