Construction of a new building inside the Rizal Memorial Sport Complex that will house the office and training center of the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) starts today, Philippine Sports Commissioner Fr. Vic Uy announced yesterday.
According to Uy, the building will cost the government?s sports agency at least P13 million.
While construction is ongoing, the national athletes and developmental pool members will be training temporarily in Baguio City.
“Our boxers will stay there for awhile. At least they will have a high-altitude training there while construction is ongoing,” Uy said.
The building is expected to be completed in March or early April.
Uy also disclosed that some national sports associations have started vacating their offices at the second floor of PSC main building because of the ongoing renovations.
They will transfer to their new offices at the Philsports Complex located in Pasig.
The second floor of the main building will soon be used by the sports agency?s staff from the accounting, support services, engineering and transportation departments.
Only eight associations, namely athletics, boxing, wushu, taekwondo, gymnastics, tennis, badminton and baseball, have opted to stay inside the sports complex owing to the proximity of their training facilities.
