Cebuano super flyweight sensation Z ?The Dream? Gorres of the famed ALA Boxing Stable will be clashing with a Colombian fighter in his US debut, but not Felix Flores Murillo as earlier named by American promoter Murad Muhammad. This after Antonio ?Bidoy? L. Aldeguer, who manages Gorres? career in partnership with eminent lawyer-sportsman Rudy Salud, confirmed to The Freeman via text message yesterday that Gorres will tackle Reynaldo Hurtado in the undercard of the historic Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales battle on March 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
?Z Gorres final opponent is Reynaldo Hurtado, the one who previously fought Gerry Pe?alosa,? said Aldeguer, who is already in Las Vegas together with international promoter Sammy Gello-ani, ALA chief trainer Edito Villamor and reigning WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight champion Rey ?Boom Boom? Bautista.
When checked by this writer on Boxrec.com, however, there is no record of Reynaldo Hurtado having fought against former WBC super flyweight champion Gerry Pe?alosa.
Aldeguer may have mistaken Reynaldo Hurtado as Ramon Jose Hurtado of Panama, the one who actually fought and was knocked down by Pe?alosa in the second round during their June 5, 1999 encounter at the Grand Casino in Missouri, USA. Ramon has been inactive since he was knocked out in the second round by Mexican Jorge Armando Arce three years ago.
Nicknamed as ?El Doberman,? the 34-year-old Reynaldo Hurtado holds a 36-6-1 win-loss-draw record with 27 wins by way of knockout – a testament to his devastating power.
Hurtado, who hails from Cartagena, Colombia, is coming off back-to-back losses, the last was via seventh round KO to former WBO jr bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel on September 3 last year at the Desert Diamond Casino in Phoenix, Arizona.
The 23-year-old Gorres, who has been training for over a month now at the gym of former world champion and 2002 Trainer of the Year awardee Buddy McGirt in Orlando, Florida, sports a 18-1-1 win-loss-draw record with 10KOs.
Gorres, who hails from Mandaue City, is in for a career-defining bout so is hard-pressed to make an impression against the veteran Hurtado.
Gorres also hopes to duplicate the feat of his stablemate Bautista, who made a strong statement in his US debut by knocking out Thai Aree Phosuwangym cold in the second round last Saturday at the Neal Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii.
