LOS ANGELES ? Manny Pacquiao?s Australian conditioning coach said on Sunday that Erik Morales is going to be in ?his best shape ever? when he squares off with the Filipino icon this weekend in Las Vegas.
“This is going to be the best Erik Morales will be in,” said Fortune, who once lost to heavyweight Lennox Lewis.
“I tell him this everyday then everyone else tells him differently, but I believe he knows that Morales is a dangerous fighter.”
Still, Fortune is pointing to the mileage on Morales? odometer as one factor why the Mexican won?t be able to handle somebody like Pacquiao.
“He?s been in too many wars and if he goes toe-to-toe with Manny, he will end up on his back. That?s going to be a big f____ mistake. Manny?s fast and they know this and if Manny hits you with that amazing power, he?s going to go down.”
Morales, the 39-year-old Fortune said, boasts of a good right straight and a nice left uppercut but is nevertheless “not spectacular.”
Fortune added that Morales knows the perils of losing two straight fights that?s why he is going all out in his bid to return to the fistic spotlight.
Before deciding to lock horns with Pacquiao, Morales absorbed a loss to Marco Antonio Barrera.
