LAS VEGAS ? Oscar De La Hoya will have to tape his hands differently tonight against Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand after Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach complained to Golden Boy Promotions, De La Hoya?s company, and the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Roach said De La Hoya?s corner was applying two-inch wide tape between his knuckles. The tape can ball up and create a ridge beneath the gloves? padding, said Roach, a former De La Hoya trainer. In a meeting at a roundtable in the press room at the MGM Grand a couple of hours after the weigh-in, Roach, Golden Boy representatives, Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum and Nevada State Athletic Commission officials resolved the issue. Joe Chavez, who wraps De La Hoya?s hands, will have to cut the tape in half so that is one inch wide. Roach will be in De La Hoya?s dressing room to watch the process before opening bell. ?Tape gate,?? Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer joked after the momentary flap was settled.
