Just moments ago, reigning World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific bantam king Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista made an impressive American debut as he won via a stunning knockout win over Thai Aree Phosuwangym at 1:45 of the 5th round in the scheduled 10-round non-title fight at the Neal Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Bautista used his bread-and-butter right uppercut-left hook to floor the celebrated former Muay Thai fighter from Bangkok.
It took almost 5 minutes before Aree could get back his conciousness and he was almost led out of the ring by the medical team on a stretcher.
Phosuwangym jumped on Bautista right away, as he dictated the momentum of the opening round round and set a fast-paced action. The seasoned Muay Thai fighter (who has a record of 90 Muay Thai fights under his belt) tried to press the attack, but Bautista was able to turn the tide by dominating the 2nd to 4th round. He finally floored Aree on the 5th.
Bautista, the young phenom from Candijay, Bohol was congratulated at ringside by former World chamion Ben Villaflor, Jesus Salud and Rolando Bohol who incidentally handed over the trophy to the WBO Aspac champ.
The win improved Bautista’s record to 14 wins with 10 KO’s and lines him up for yet another fight in the US within the year.
Bautista and his manager Tony Aldeguer, together with trainer Edito “Ala” Villamor and promoter Sammy Gello-ani are slated to fly today to LA before heading off to Las Vegas to watch Z Gorres see action against Gerson Guerrero underneath the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales show.
