Pound For Pound king Manny Pacquiao has not only trained harder for Oscar De La Hoya than ever before-he also does not see the ?Golden Boy?s obvious size and power as a disadvantage.
Speaking on this week?s national conference call to promote his PPV super fight with Oscar at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas on December 6 the Filipino powerhouse said: ?I have had a great, great training camp. I?m very happy. We have trained hard for this fight. I guess this is the hardest training I?ve done in my boxing career and I can see that this fight?it will be great?the biggest fight in my boxing career.
Pacquiao also revealed that while he has paid more attention to technical and strategic moves with trainer Freddie Roach, his diet remains the same. ?We didn?t change our training,? said Pacquiao. ?We?re still there and we just apply some exercises for this training to build the muscles. And we have applied some exercise for the fight.
?There have been no changes in our training for this training camp but we have applied a lot of techniques and strategies for this fight.
?What we?re doing in training right now is focusing on defense and head movement and strategies. I understand he?s very strong but I believe I can handle his power. I can handle that power.
?So I think for this fight we have a couple of techniques that I can?t talk about right now but you will see in the fight. And maybe people will be surprised there.?
The general feeling amongst boxing fans and writers is that at just 5ft 6 and barely 135lbs at best. Pacquiao is far too small to take on the much taller, stronger natural junior-middleweight-even if the fight has been made a 147lbs.
?I?m not that small,? insisted Pacquiao. I?m 149, 150 right now so I have two weeks more so easy to come down to 147.
