8CountNews caught up with the undisputed lightweight world champion, Nate Campbell and got an update on the latest goings on with him. Campbell informs 8CN that he is undergoing some legal issues (promotional), but hopes to get back into the ring in January. Campbell also shares his thoughts on the Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya fight coming up in December.
8CN ? Nate, thank you for joining 8CountNews.
Nate Campbell ? Thank you for having me.
8CN ? Nate, it’s been awhile since we have heard from you. The last time you were close to fighting was in Biloxi, MS against Juan Guzman. Of course we all know Guzman couldn’t make the weight, so the fight was scratched. What’s the latest?
Nate Campbell ? Well we are going through some legal stuff that I can’t really talk about. Right now I am just training and staying in shape, doing what I have to do.
8CN ? Without elaborating, is it a promotional issue that you’re dealing with?
Nate Campbell ? Yes there are a few promotional issues, but nothing that I can elaborate on.
8CN ? What are your thoughts on the upcoming Pacquiao vs De La Hoya fight?
Nate Campbell ? Well at first I was upset about it because I wanted to fight Pacquiao. But then I thought about it, this man is set to make what? 14 million dollars? God bless him, I want to make that kind of money too, so God bless him.
8CN ? Well win lose or draw, I believe that Pacquiao will fight on. You obviously would want him in the future.
Nate Campbell ? Yea, I want to fight him. I always wanted to fight him, but it is what it is. You can get the fight if they don’t want to give it to you.
8CN ? Do you think Pacquiao goes after Hatton next, or do you think you have a shot at getting Pac?
Nate Campbell ? I am a viable opponent, but these other names are built up more than me.
8CN ? Juan Diaz rebounded from the thrashing that you gave him against Katsidis. What are your thoughts on that fight?
Nate Campbell ? Well Katsidis is no Nate Campbell. Of course he’s going to beat a guy like Katsidis, he stands right in front of you.
8CN ? When you trained for the Juan Guzman fight, and then got to the venue, and the guy pulls out of the fight…. What does that do to your mindset when something like that happens?
Nate Campbell ? Well it made me realize that it’s not my fault. I have to do what I have to do to keep going forward. It wasn’t my fault, he could have fought because I told him that we could get in the ring and fight anyway. I am a fighter, and when a fight falls through, when a guy talks trash, and when he gets off of the school bus, THEN he doesn’t want to fight, I just chalk it up, and move on.
8CN ? You addressed the crowd and apologized for Guzman. Did you feel that it was important to do that for the fans?
Nate Campbell ? Well I owe all of this to the fans. Those people came their to see a fight, and the sad thing is, they didn’t get one. I wanted to tell them that I was sorry, and then I have to move on.
8CN ? When can your fans expect to see you back in the ring?
Nate Campbell ? Hopefully January or February?
8CN ? Who do you want to fight the most?
Nate Campbell ? At this point, I’ll take any one of them. I am the man, and the bad part is when Juan Diaz was champion, everybody was saying that he was the man. Don’t get mad when I say I am the man. Everybody wants to get mad when I say that I am the man in the lightweight division. So anyone of them is fine with me, I’ll fight any of them.
