Less than 225,000 Buys for Calzaghe-Jones

I?m laughing at you Kerry Davis.

I?m laughing at you Ross Greenburg.

I?m laughing at all you nitwits working at HBO for thinking that piecing together a non-compelling match-up coupled with a 24/7 will lure the average idiot into buying the stupid thing.

According to Steve Kim from Maxboxing.com, the Roy Jones Jr.-Joe Calzaghe bout failed to break the 225,000 mark in terms of Pay-Per-View buys. Based on Kim?s article, HBO had ?projected? the bout to do 500,000 buys.

My only question is? based on what?

What clicked in that pea-sized brain of yours to ?project? 500,000 buys for Roy Jones Jr. versus Joe Calzaghe?

What exactly made you calculate that this match-up was something that the public actually desired to see?

Seriously speaking? somebody, anybody let me know what the thought process at HBO is?

I mean? you guys seem rather stupid but you can?t be that stupid.

Let me take a wild guess as to the factors that led to the projection of 500,000 buys or more for Calzaghe-Jones.

1. There was a 24/7 countdown show for the event which based on past experiences had driven pay-per-view sales quite nicely. Little did you remember that for both prior events involving the 24/7, it involved fighters who sold each bout with great fervor and hadn?t suffered prior embarrassingly losses as did Roy Jones Jr.

2. Trinidad-Jones earlier this year did 500,000 buys. Quite laughable being that it?s obvious that Tito was the major factor in that figure. Let me now guess? HBO will beg Tito to comeback in 2009 to drive some sales.

3. Calzaghe had defeated the ?old man? this past April leading HBO executives to believe that the American public had now grown to know and respect the ?Pride of Wales?. Little did they realize that the fight between Joe and Bernard was aesthetically whore iffic.

Get it?

Whore iffic?

4. Ricky Hatton did relatively well against Floyd Mayweather Jr. last December so Joe might do good as well. They are in fact both… European.

5. The HBO mentality is to put an over the hill Joe Montana and Jerry Rice on a football team and expect to draw ratings and sell tickets. Not smart or savvy.

Seriously speaking? the list of ridiculing HBO could go on and on.

The low pay-per-view sales figure is a reflection of the fans becoming fed-up with the shit being served by the premium network. For those of you that feel as though the ?internet piracy? movement has affected Pay-Per-View sales, let me break it down for you simpletons.

The most visited boxing website on the planet is boxrec.com

That website generates 50,000 world-wide visitors on a daily basis.

It?d be safe to state that not all of those 50,000 visitors pirate boxing pay-per-views and it?ll also be safe to say that about 30 percent of that figure resides in the United States (based on Alexa) which equates to 15,000.

So if everyone that visits boxrec that resides in America pirates boxing over the internet (an impossibility), that only equates to roughly 15,000 people which is neglible when it comes to Pay-Per-View results.

Don?t blame the economy, the internet, the media or anyone else for these miserable buy rates taking place.

Blame yourself my unintelligent friend.

The public has spoken and unfortunately I feel as though they will speak again this December 6.

Had De la Hoya-Margarito been made, I honestly believe as though it?d be a completely different story. Hardcore fans and casual fans alike all tell me the same thing? ?The fight we wanted was De la Hoya-Margarito? who cares about Pacquiao-Oscar??

It?s funny how some things especially boxing don?t require a high level of intelligence. All it takes is speaking with the consumer and leaving your know-it-all attitude that?s stuck in the 1990?s to create match-ups that the fans truly desire.

What difference does it make at this point?

I?m sure we?ll see the following match-ups in 2009:

Marquez-Morales

Jones-Hopkins

Wright-Trinidad II

Barrera-Campbell

And every other predictable farce like we?ve seen over the past several years.

Go ahead and continue what you?ve been doing HBO? I?ll be laughing at you mongrels the whole time.
