Freddie Roach wants Manny Pacquiao to do one thing on Dec. 6: Break down Oscar De La Hoya the way he does with other fighters.
Admitting that Pacquiao doesn?t have a one-shot stopping power, Roach is confident the Filipino can still end up winning by knockout by making the Golden Boy work hard for every second of every round.
“I?m not looking for a knockout. If a knockout comes, it comes. We?re going to break this guy down and win each round one at a time. And that?s our goal,” Roach said during a recent teleconference call with writers from around the world.
“And if Oscar tires, like he normally does, we will stop him. I?m not worried about Manny being a knockout puncher in this fight because he?s not that one-punch knockout type of guy. He breaks people down and he gets them out late and is more with aggression.”
Roach also took time out to give a piece of his mind when told about the presence of Venezuelan southpaw Edwin Valero in Big Bear, California, a high-altitude training facility being used by De La Hoya.
“Valero?s probably nothing like Manny Pacquiao. He punches hard but he?s slow as molasses. And I think they got the wrong guy,” Roach stressed.
