TOUGH TV CHOICE TONIGHT FOR FANS
San Francisco, CA- Tonight boxing fans have a choice to make: Do you watch the Showtime card featuring the man perceived to be Mexico?s best fighter, World 115 lb. champ Christian Mijares vs. Vic Darchinyan? The co-feature has 2004 Olympian Andre Dirrell. Or do you buy the PPV featuring Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.-Matt Vanda II, which is backed up by World flyweight (112 lb.) king Nonito Doniare defending against Moruti Mthalane?
SLICKSTERS TO WATCH BOTH FREE?
For those of us that don?t know how to watch major fights for free on the Internet, this is truly a dilemma. In my handicapping of the evening?s fights 48 hours ago, I didn?t say it, but I?m very animated about both cards. The Chavez-Vanda rematch was mandated by the stench of the split decision that Chavez got in Mexico July 12. The two judges, Martin Canizalez (97-93) and Francisco Mouret?s shutout card of 100-90, these were damn near criminal. The Mexican fans booed the Chavez win heavily!
VANDA GOT HEIST DECISION VS. CAMPAS
Vanda now knows how ?Yory Boy? Campas felt when two judges gave Vanda a split decision after Campas pounded him like salt for 12 rounds in 2005. Putting that aside, Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Trampler, he is betting that Vanda?s exposure of Chavez was a fluke, an off night for the legend?s son. I don?t know. Matt Vanda will bring it, the question is will Chavez be able to take it and respond with sustainable artillery?
?FILIPINO FLASH? IN SEMI MAIN
Nonito Donaire, who became an overnight sensation with his 2007 KO of the year over Vic Darchinyan, is another fighter that merits your attention. An amateur standout, the kid has overcome managerial issues that slowed his ascent initially. Now the recognized #1 flyweight in the world, Doniare needs to shine tonight in order to expand his financial horizons.
KING CHRISTIAN DOES SHOWTIME
Christian Mijares has become a ?Golden Boy? of sorts in Mexico. You see him on the Spanish TV news often. And in addition, he?s made a lot of appearances on the national highly rated pro wrestling shows. Although Antonio Margarito maybe the best Mexican fighter according to American fans because of his beat down of Miguel Cotto, Mijares is incredibly popular and should he continue to win, his base, as well as his financial rewards will continue to expand.
ARCE NOW FIGHTING AT 115 TOO!
Jorge Arce is also on this PPV bill presented by Bob Arum?s Top Rank. At one point there were lots of accolades being heaped upon Arce when he was campaigning at 112 lbs. But what those lame pundits failed to acknowledge in their coverage of Arce was that he was fighting at 129 lbs., this after weighing 112 lbs. at the day before weigh in.
GREG SIRB ONLY COMMISH THAT GETS IT!
Speaking of weigh ins, I?m with Greg Sirb, head of the Pennsylvania Boxing Commission. Why even have a day before weigh in? He cites Arce and others who gain a ton of weight after the day before scaling. Greg holds his weigh ins the morning of the fight. Back to the subject of tonight?s fights, both bills look good.
