Bob Arum knows that loose lips sink ships. So the Admiral of Top Rank remained admirably close-mouthed Wednesday night when I asked him to reveal what Oscar de la Hoya’s “major announcement” will be Thursday afternoon.
“I know what is,” Arum said. “I know what it is exactly but I’m not telling you. I can’t tell you. It’s a good thing.”
With Halloween creeping up Friday, I asked Uncle Bob if Oscar’s news flash concerning his camp could be categorized as a trick or a treat.
“It’s a treat. You will see, it’s a good thing.”
Never before has Arum said so little about so much? Or will it turn out that Arum just said so little about so little?
Reading between the lines as Arum played the mime role, I think the announcement will be something cute, rather than something earthshaking.
