Gejon failed to impress the fight fans after he was unsuccessful in knocking out the slugger Ray in their 10-round battle.
?He fought a good fight. He did okay but it was not convincing. The fans expected a knockout. Maybe we?ll give him another fight and see where he is at,? ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu in an interview yesterday.
Aldeguer is still waiting for the tape of the fight and review it with Gejon.
?I will still be watching the tape of the fight and discuss it with Gejon and his trainer and reevaluate him if he is ready to be back fighting higher caliber opponents. It?s important to evaluate who he will fight next and what level of fighters he will be fighting,? he said.
All the judges were in favor for the 29-year-old fighter, 98-94, 96-94 and 97-94. With the victory Gejon, improved to 24-4-1 with 14 knockout record, while Ray slumped to three wins six defeats and a draw with two knockouts.
Meanwhile, the hard-hitting young ALA boy James Bacon (6-1, 5 KO?s) prevailed against Jojo Arnado (9-21-1, 3 KOs) via a fourth round knockout.
Aldeguer believes that they have to plan Bacon?s career carefully because he thinks that the teenager could be a prospect to be a great boxer.
?Bacon is very explosive and one of the most exciting fighters of the ALA Gym. We feel that he needs a lot of experience. He is still very young and is still new to the sport. He as a lot to learn before we let him fight a good veteran fighter but the young boy has a lot of potential,? said Aldeguer.
Undercard
Bacon?s handler will be placing him in the undercard of a proposed huge fight card on Jan. 24 at the Waterfront Hotel and Resort in Cebu City which will be headlined by World Boxing Organization mini flyweight king Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes and AJ ?Bazooka? Banal.
On the other hand, three is a charm for Ricky Sismundo (11-3, 3 KOs) as he destroyed his nemesis Reman Salem (15-11-1, 4 KOs) in the second round to sweep all their three encounters.
Rocky Amonsot (1-0, 1 KO), the sibling of former ALA standout Czar Amonsot, had a very impressive debut and decked Socrates Pasaol (0-2) in the very first round.
