The debates are finally over. No, I don?t mean between Obama and that angry white man. I mean the Oscar de la Hoya-Manny Pacquiao cross-country media tour debates.
You know it?s time for the train to pull into the station when they have to drape flags over the fighters shoulders as they did in Oscar?s old stomping grounds of East Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Freddie Roach used the toy gun trick (?Oscar can?t pull the trigger?) in San Francisco.
In case you’re keeping score at home, Flagman Oscar had two banners to Megamanny’s one. On the other hand, no president of Mexico or the U.S. ever referred to Oscar as “the National Fist.” Not to mention that you can lick Manny with Filipino postage but a letter sent with an Oscar “stamp” will be marked postage due…I guess it all evens out.
OK, now run along like good boys and girls, and Manny get your butt to the Wild Card while Oscar you ride up to the rarefied air of Big Bear and get settled in camp.
Meanwhile, lost in the shuffle so far this unfortunately has been a decent light heavyweight showdown between Bad Chad Dawson and Antonio Tarver. Too bad also this one is happening in Vegas where neither of those two has any fan base.
I think Showtime has unwittingly cannibalized its own Dawson-Tarver bout with the large and looming shadow of what shapes up as a possible Pier Six heavyweight brawl in Berlin between Vitali K and Slammin? Sammy Peter.
At least in Berlin, there will be a crowd favorite as both VK and brother Wladimir are immensely popular in Germany.
