ANTHONY ?Rocky? Marcial and Jhonreil Casimiro clinched their first international titles and kept their undefeated records as they disposed their Thai opponents in their back-to-back title fights in the ?Fight Night in Talisay? last Friday at the Talisay Sports Complex.
Marcial won the interim World Boxing Organization Oriental super featherweight crown after stopping Thong Thai Rajanondh in the 1:49 mark of the third round.
The new champion improved his unfazed professional boxing record to 10 wins with nine knockouts while Rajanondh record fell to 17 victories and eight defeats with four knockouts.
Marcial pinned down the Thai opponent with a barrage of lefts and rights in the corner of the ring that prompted referee Teddy Alivio to stop the bout.
At the start of the bout, both boxers traded heavy blows but Marcial got the upper hand because of his height and reach advantage as he knocked down Rajanondh in the round.
Even with clear height and reach disparity and the early setback the aggressive Rajanondh still gave the Taguig-based boxer problems as he occasionally landed heavy blows to Marcial?s head.
On the other hand, Omega Gym?s star Casimiro also scored a TKO victory over Liempetch Sor Veerapol in an equally exciting co-main event title bout.
Casimiro stopped Sor Veerapol in the 1:02 mark of the fifth round following a devastating overhand right to the head to grab the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific light flyweight belt.
Sor Veerapol also kissed the canvas several times, once each in the second and in the fourth round.
Casimiro upped his unblemished record to 11 victories with six knockouts while Sor Veerapol slumped to 10 wins and four defeats with seven knockouts.
In the main supporting bout, Daryl Pucdol (7-2, 3 KOs) won by disqualification against Rey Labao (15-2, 11 KOs) after the original decision was reversed.
Labao was initially given a TKO victory after Pucdol was unable to continue following a low blow in the fourth round.
In the undercards, Jether Oliva (10-0, 8 KOs) stopped Jerome Buntog (1-6-1) in the fifth round ; Cebu-based Korean Jonghwa Lee (8-0-1, 1 KO) beat Erwin Pulvera (1-3); Elf Gitgano (2-0,1 KO) knocked out Elmer Legaria (2-1, 1 KO) in the third round and Richie Abapo (1-0) outboxed Brian Inihaw (0-1).
