Two of boxing’s most popular champions, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao, will appear at a public rally at noon Saturday at San Francisco’s Great Meadow at Upper Fort Mason to publicize their Dec. 6 welterweight bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The 12-round championship fight sold out in three hours, bringing in the second largest gate in boxing history. The fight will be broadcast live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 6 p.m. PT.
De La Hoya, a 10-time world champion who has won titles in six divisions, has a four-inch height advantage over Pacquiao, the current Ring Magazine No. 1-ranked pound-for-pound champion.
Fight fans can get a look at both boxers in person Saturday. The fighters, who will arrive at Fort Mason at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, already have made public appearances in New York and Chicago.
