A REY ?Boom Boom? Bautista and Daniel Ponce De Leon rematch will take some time to materialize because ALA Promotions is looking at a different direction for the 22-year-old ALA star.
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer believes that, as of this moment, there is no reason for Bautista to fight the dangerous hard-hitting Mexican De Leon, who defeated him at the very first round of their championship bout last year at the Arco Arena.
?He?s not the champion anymore. It?s a high risk fight but you can?t get anything out of it. Maybe in the future,? Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday in an interview.
Aldeguer wants to take time to evaluate the progress of Bautista because he thinks that the 22-year-old Boholano still has a lot to polish in his skills.
?It will take time. There are some things he needs to improve. After this Dec. 6 fight we can assess him and decide what to do next,? said Aldeguer.
Bautista will be seeing action in the undercard of the Dec. 6 mega boxing card headlined by two boxing icons, the World Boxing Council lightweight titlist Manny ?Pacman? Pacquiao and six division world champion ?Golden Boy? Oscar De La Hoya.
Aldeguer also said that World Boxing Organization Intercontinental super bantamweight titleholder?s opponent will be very vital because it would dictate the future of his young professional career.
?His next opponent will be very crucial,? he said.
Bautista?s foe will be announced in the days to come but Aldeguer disclosed that his opponent would be a high-caliber and ranked fighter.
Even if ?Boom-Boom? is now ranked as the No.1 contender of the WBO super bantamweight class, ALA Promotions isn?t in a hurry to pit him with the king of the weight category, WBO super bantamweight titlist Juan Manuel Lopez.
Meanwhile, Bautista will be leaving with a handful of fellow ALA fighters, Z ?The Dream? Gorres, Michael Domingo, AJ ?Bazooka? Banal and Mark Jason Melligen, for the US in either the last week of October or the first week of November to prepare for their upcoming fights.
Gorres will be fighting for the WBO interim super flyweight battle against Jose ?Carita? Lopez on Nov. 22, while Banal will be seeing action on the Dec. 5 Friday night boxing.
