CC: Manny Pacquiao Fans Around The Globe.
Dear Mr. Nathanielsz,
I see you took time from your busy writing schedule to address my recent comments on Boxing Confidential Radio. Your article addresses my comments regarding the overall physical well-being of Manny Pacquiao in his upcoming “fight” with Oscar De La Hoya and my views on some of Pacquiao’s hardcore fanatics.
Today Mr. Michael Marley, boss hog at Boxing Confidential, took the time to “defend” my recent comments on Boxing Confidential Radio, as well as my overall style of writing. While I appreciate Mr. Marley’s support, I am my own man and want to make what I meant and what I do crystal clear with no misunderstanding.
In my response to your very public comments regarding my comments on Pacquiao, I will be quoting your column from PhilBoxing.com.
“But what distressed if not angered us was the seeming hatred for Pacquiao which seethed in the brief portion we read in the Inquirer in which Lois claimed that the demolition of Pacquiao ?will make up for what we had to put up with Pacmaniacs over the years. It will be great seeing Oscar De La Hoya knock Manny out in three rounds.?”
First and foremost, I have no hatred for Manny Pacquiao and Pacmaniacs. Just because I believe that Manny Pacquiao will loss and by knockout, does not mean I hate the man. Also, lets make something clear. I did NOT write these statements, Mr. Marley quoted me from comments on Boxing Confidential Radio. I invite you to please listen to the show and my exact comments. They come on at 41 minutes and twenty seconds.
Does it sound as if I was seriously wishing ill physical effects, or having some fun with Manny and his followers?
For your information, here is the exact quote…
“When he hits him with a left hook to the brain…In a sick kind of way, we have had to deal with the Pacmaniacs over the last several years…May be he will do a crack head shuffle a la Zab Judah with a small mix of the Thomas Hearns wobbly, wobbly Thomas Hearns and it might be worth putting up with what we have put from the Pacmaniacs for the last several years.”
Once again, listen for yourself and tell me if I sounded as if I was full of hate or even one hundred percent serious.
“To put it bluntly that?s a cheap shot. How in the name of sanity if not fair comment can a boxing writer in the position of Lois draw satisfaction for the irrational and sometimes vicious and vulgar comments by Pacquiao fans by enjoying the demolition of Manny ? if it happens at all? And if that?s how much of a mismatch it will be why not assail ?The Golden Boy? for tarnishing his image and picking on a much smaller fighter just so he could earn millions and for claiming it won?t be an easy fight? Which is which?”
What is my position? I am not a great boxing writer nor one one of great notoriety. My comments once again, gave no indication of a enjoyment on my part if Manny was demolished. It was a joke. Yes, I think De La Hoya will win and by knockout, but once again, that particular comment was supposed to be funny, a joke. Also, I have spent a lot of time and energy discrediting Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions for selecting a featherweight, at best, in his final bout when Antonio Margarito was available. You must not follow my work closely, but just wish to capitalize on one comment, out of context, to rally up your Filipino brothers against a man who is picking your boy to lose.
“The hate clearly surfaces when Lois says ?after Oscar hurts Manny with a left hook to the brain, you will see Pacquiao doing the crackhead dance . He might do the Zab Judah crackhead dance with some Thomas Hearns wobbly, wobbly. It will be great to see that.? Pathetic indeed.”
Again, you did not even quote me correctly. You have put too much faith in Mr. Michael Marley’s note taking skills.
“Award-winning writer and former Golden Gloves champion Pedro Fernandez who tells it like it is, has often referred to the mindless Pacquiao fans and hits them with all he?s got but he has never shown any ill-will towards Pacquiao or wished that he be demolished and hurt with a left hook to the brain as Lois has so fervently wished.”
Again, I am not sure where I fervently wished for Pacquiao to be demolished. Unlike some of your countrymen and their wishes for the harm of Edwin Valero and Juan Manuel Marquez, I do not spend my time wishing for the down fall of Pacquiao. All I do is report things as I see them and on this instance crack a joke which many humorless individuals have taken to heart without listening to the comment within the proper context.
I find it interesting that my comment about the left hook to the brain is seen as wishing ill will on Manny. If you have not noticed, every boxing fight has one general objective…hitting the other man in the head and causing a slight amount of brain trauma. When Manny supporters wish for him to knock out De La Hoya or Juan Manuel Marquez, are they fervently wishing for these men to be demolished?
As for the idiotic Manny Pacquiao fans who see no wrong in their idol and make silly comments at every given opportunity with no true knowledge of boxing or its history…face it they are more of a disgrace to Manny and the their country than a credit. A small verbal jab at them is not some sort hate filled attack on them. They are idiots and annoying, that is all I have to say.
So, slow down, your article has fueled dozens and dozens of Manny fans to e-mail me threats, and insults to my family – wishing them harm, and worse, because you took the time to write an inflammatory article without listening to my exact comments. So who is the true villain in this situation? I could care less if some moron wants to threaten me, but it is a bit ironic based on your article.
Let me make one more thing clear as a whistle. Manny Pacquiao will lose December 6. He does not have the size, defense, or power to stop a much bigger man. The moment De La Hoya lands a left hook to the head (brain), or a straight right hand, the dynamics of the bout will change and Manny will go down.
I will also make it clear that this fight is a complete joke and there is no true tension and it lacks as a display of competition.
Mr. Nathanielsz, I invite you to argue your point live on the air on Boxing Confidential Radio this Monday night. My e-mail is below, get in touch with me.
Sincerely,
Ricardo Lois [email protected]
