Domingo to get title shot if he wins vs. Vorapin

FOR most of Michael Domingo?s professional boxing career he was a journeyman, but now he will have a chance to prove himself that he belongs at a different level.

If the World Boxing Organization Oriental bantamweight titleholder Domingo will be successful in his Sunday skirmish with former WBO bantamweight king Ratanachai Sor Vorapin in the main event of SGG Promotions ?Daytime Boxing: Philippines vs. Thailand? card at the Cebu Coliseum, he will be given a once in a lifetime opportunity for a world title shot by his handler ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer.

?If he gets past this fight and an offer comes to fight for a world championship then we will grab it. He is very ready and is at the right age,? said Aldeguer in an interview by Sun.Star Cebu.

Greatest test

This fight will be the greatest test for the 29-year-old ALA pugilist and will illustrate if he truly is part of the elite fighters in the boxing industry or just a run-of-the-mill boxer.

?This fight will indicate where Michael belongs. If he will remain a journeyman or a future world champion,? said Aldeguer. ?It?s going to be a great fight and at the same time a tough fight for Michael.?

This fight is a dream come true for Domingo because he has long been itching to battle with WBO No.3 contender Sor Vorapin after seeing fellow Filipino boxer and present WBO bantamweight titlist Gerry Pe?alosa score a technical knockout victory over the Thai last April 6 at the Araneta Coliseum.

?I don?t expect anyone to be knocked out in this fight. It?s going to be a battle of wits,? said Aldeguer, who believes that the fight will be a mind game of two veteran ring warriors.

?He is very excited to fight Vorapin. He has been longing to fight him. He wanted the opportunity to fight a named or ranked fighter,? said Domingo?s manager.

Domigo had his ups and downs in his nine-year boxing career. He started out his professional career with an imposing 10-0-1 record but suffered his first defeat against Cebuano Jimrex Jaca in 2000 with a third round knockout.
