Training for the first time with the least number of retinue in his camp, Mexican legend Erik “El Terrible” Morales yesterday emphasized he and his team are not worried of the highly-touted left hand that Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao will bring to the table when they clash for the first time on March 19 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
The 28-year-old former WBC superbantam/WBC featherweight/WBC super-featherweight titlist, in an interview with some Mexican press people yesterday, appeared confident and expressed that Pacquiao, although a highly-dangerous opponent, is nothing but a one-dimensional fighter who cannot adapt to a fight situation.
“In my past fights I already faced left-handed boxers and I beat them all by knockout, with the exception of Enrique Angeles who I beat in 12 rounds… My better artillery is my right hand and that’s what I will use against left-handed people. Pacquiao is dangerous because of his speed, but my superior strength will be the determining factor,” Morales stated yesterday in an interview with Notimex.
The Mexican hero also divulged to media that for the first time in ten years, he has been training without his usual retinue which used to include a doctor, nutritionist, cook and physical conditioning coach. This time, he has trimmed down his team to include only his father/manager Jose Morales, his brother Diego, and trainer Fernando Fernandez.
Serving as Morales’ sparmates at the Otomi Mountains in preparation for Pacquiao are Alirio Rivero, Rodrigo Ju?rez, Fernando “Wary” Beltr?n Junior, Julio G?mez and Lupe Rangel.
“I am expecting an intelligent fight against Pacquiao and I will do what neither Barrera nor Juan Manuel M?rquez could do, which is to defeat Pacquiao,” boasted Morales.
