Manny Pacquiao?s got enough on his plate so I?m leaving him out of this for the time being. Besides, in case you?ve been stuck in a cave in Lower Slobbovia, he?s turning into a welterweight.
I?m leaving Arizona lightweight John McBush out also even though The New York Times reports his convo acceptance speech used the word ?fight? 43 times. Is this ready to rumble cat the same guy who wants to drop partisan politics? I suppose so. He wants to really reach across the aisle?and put a choke hold on any Democrat he can.
Which reminds me, what?s the difference between an Alaskan hockey mom and a pitbull? Pitbulls are required to be on leashes in the big city.
This weekend and next the hierarchy in the lightweight division could be arranged. Then again, it may stay static depending on results from Houston, Las Vegas and Biloxi.
That?s why I decided to issue my lightweight rankings now before Messrs. Guzman, Campbell, Diaz, Katsidis, Marquez and Casamayor cross gloves.
And, I as said for you reading-impaired sorts, we?re leaving Megammany out of the competiton.
Michael Marley?s Lightweight Hierarchy:
Joan Guzman: Yes, I have an association with him. But I really believe (and Freddie Roach seems to concur) he?s the most talented of a talented bunch. If he beats Nate Campbell convincingly, he soars to a higher plateau. Juan Manuel Marquez: I would love to see the Dominicano and the Mexicano tee it up but it might turn into one of those nil-nil soccer games with too much defensive prowess getting in the way of a real rumble. Who would lead?
Juan Diaz: Taken to the proverbial woodshed by Nate Campbell, yes, but still may be best pure boxer among the 135-pounders. Best should be yet to come to Baby Bull and target practice against Rocky K should set the tone.
Edwin Valero: Boxing skills overall, zero. Defensive technique, sub zero. You don?t need wind turbines to provide electric power when he is throwing crazy bomb after bomb. Plus, he?s got an engaging personality, once telling me one of his right hand is worth $15 million, his southpaw power right paw being worth $20 million. But the $35 Million Dollar Venezolano needs to start fighting on American soil. Most exciting of the bunch, no doubt. But opponents have been Little League variety.
Joel Casamayor: Certainly a Hall Of Famer but yesterday?s cheers have a short echo, my friend, and his legs are going to really betray him some night soon. They?re still clearing the funky smell out of Madison Square Garden from undeserved victory over Jose Armando Santa Cruz. Different styles will make his fight with Juan Ma close but I see no victory cigar for Cubano.
Nate Campbell: Good guy but he?s had more ups and downs than an elevator operator. His showing against Guzrun (oops) will reveal his true skill level and tell us if he just caught Diaz in tropical depression. Keep in mind that the Guzman mandatory is not a match that good guy Nate The Skate and his team volunteered for.
The next two weekends will either prove me to be a pugilistic peer and savant or just another old fool from the Old School.
What say you, BC derelicts? Am I crazy or am I beset by a premature case of Alzheimer?s? Hey, what?s the name of this site anways? Keep in mind that the beauty of Alzheimer?s is that you?re constantly meeting new people.
